AVATARS!

Yes, we heard you!!! We've heard those calls to further personalize the forum and allow members to have an avatar appear when they post. Until recently we've resisted the idea for a number of reasons; the primary being members could not upload images and cross linking slows down page loading because the website has to go out and get the image.

Well now everyone has the ability to create their own personal gallery on the website and post their own member blogs. We thought "What better way to encourage the use of these features!!"

You'll notice both the forum and blog now show avatars for the poster and the those who reply. Clicking on the photo will bring up a full size version without taking you away from the page! The arrows below the picture will allow you to scroll through the Avatars of other members. Now you can get a visual of who is posting... put a face to a name... get a glimpse of who they are and maybe find out if it's someone you know or have seen... or someone you WILL know the next time you see them.

The avatar is actually your profile picture, and while you can still remotely link, we suggest you create your personal gallery and upload an image for your profile. Once uploaded you'll see an icon below the image to set it as your profile picture. You can also use the regular photo gallery the same way. Simply search for your member number and use the same icon.

BLOGS!

To further enhance the blog module we've given members the ability to control the blog a little more. The Author can now lock their blog, and not allow comments (they will have to unlock it to edit it too, but they can prevent members from posting to it!). Members can also delete posts from other members (not admins or moderators) if they don't like them. The blog is yours!!! You can also delete a blog once it's been replied to (the only caveat is you have to delete the replies first - if there are any). Yes, we know there are some limitations here, but they were necessary. We hope you understand.

You can also easily link images from your member gallery into you blog! In the post Format: Options look for the () Icon. You can also post YouTube Videos in your blog using the() icon.

When reading a blog, at the very top to the right you'll see a few more icons and a list of websites you can share the blog on. If you find a member's post interesting share it on your favorite website or email it to a friend. You can also search for blogs by specific players and get a list of blogs by date.

Comments, questions and bug reports are always welcome!

Enjoy everyone!

Bob Swauger
Maryland APA Web Admin

Pool Players, designing for Pool Players.
Search is still your friend!

Fran and I just launched our latest project. We've been working closely over the last several months with WPBA players Kelly Fisher and Val Finnie creating kwikfireinc.com! For those who have issues with sound on web pages please check your speakers before visiting! For those that don't I highly recommend you leave them on for the full effect.

The site is still under construction as we fill in content and process images, so bear in mind that some pages may not be available just yet. Kelly wanted to get the cues online so we made it a priority to create that page and set up everything for online processing of orders. The cues are quite nice. Fran and I took high resolution images of them all for use on the site and got to handle and check each one out. They are of very high quality.

The design is credited to Val and Kelly. They came to Baltimore and worked with Fran and I for the better part of a day laying out and refining their vision for colors and stlye. Fran and I took that concept, worked within i and refined it to what you see now. Val actually designed all the cues as well.

Fran gets all the credit for the video on the home page. He's got another one he's working on for them right now, so you'll need to check back to see that one when it's completed.

Bob Swauger
Maryland APA Web Admin

Pool Players, designing for Pool Players.
Search is your friend!

It looks like some members are starting to discover their personal galleries! Those that haven't: look on the left menu and click PERSONAL GALLERIES - on the opening page click the starred-folder icon in the upper right to create your gallery.

You can create new folders to organize your pictures, upload, sort and even add comments. You can also tag an image for use in your profile. The league gallery sometimes produces an error when linked to your profile image but this feature doesn't have that bug.

We've got some more enhancements planned for this feature including pulling all your images from the league gallery to include them when people search for you.

We've given you the space and the ability. This has been a feature many have asked for! We want to see what you do with it so create your gallery today!

Bob Swauger
Maryland APA Web Admin

Pool Players, designing for Pool Players.
Search is your friend!

One of the new features we're testing is the ability to create a list of friends, visible through your profile. Adding them is simple. Just find your friend's profile by using the MEMBERS link in the horizontal blue menu above. You can search by real name, member name or playr number.

Once you've found them use the icon on the far left () to view their profile. Click the WEB FRIEND link on the left side of their profile details. The website will send them a private message to accept your request. IF YOU HAVE PRIVATE MESSAGES DISABLED YOU CAN'T USE THIS FEATURE.

Once they've accepted your request they will appear in your profile. For now that's about all it does, but going forward we will be expanding the functionality. For now we want to make sure it works properly.

We'll be posting a video soon, so you can see how it works.

Bob Swauger
Maryland APA Web Admin

Pool Players, designing for Pool Players.
Search is your friend!
